Real Life Measurement (RLHM)

Description

Real life measurement aims to capture human behavior in everyday life using modern technology equipment. Our peer mentoring group Real Life Health Measurement (RLHM) offers PhD students as well as Postdocs a platform to exchange about this method which is increasingly important for psychological research. The goal of the peer mentoring group is to gain theoretical knowledge and practical experiences in the field of real life measurement.

Real life measurement and ambulatory assessment

A lot of previous research has been conducted in the lab, focusing on specific aspects under controlled conditions. Most often, conclusions are drawn for an entire population. However, these conclusions can be generalized only to a certain degree, because human life takes place in everyday life instead of in the lab. Nowadays, modern technologies enable the research of life as it is lived. Thus, human behavior can be captured multidimensionally, taking context into account. Different applications facilitate data collection actively (e.g., surveys) or passively (e.g., movement, language).

Goals and activities of the RLHM

Our main goals are the following:

  • gain an overview about real life measurement and ambulatory assessment
  • acquire theoretical and application-oriented knowledge in terms of real life measurement and ambulatory assessmentlearn about different
  • measurement methods and to applicate them (workshops and hands-on-trainings
  • exchange ideas, experiences, and thoughts within the group as well as to give and receive feedback (from peers and experts)

Our activities can be divided into: theory, hands-on-trainings, and quantitative analyses.
