Associations between biological variables involved in estrogen signaling in women healthy aging

Differential estrogen signaling has been associated with depression and anxiety. Increasing evidence suggests that epigenetic modifications could contribute to differential estrogen signaling. In this study, we examine associations between levels of methylation within the estrogen receptor (ER) genes, age, and HPA axis related disorders, in the women 40+ cohort. We used the dried blood spots (DBSs) technology as source of DNA and methods such as next generation sequencing and enzyme immune assay. Results suggest the involvement of methylation modifications in healthy aging as well as in anxiety and depression symptomatology.
